“Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion. ”
~ Martha Graham
Skylar has such an enormous passion for dancing! She has loved, loved, loved being in the Jr. Company this year and especially loves performances and competitions. It's so awesome to see her dance because she always looks like she is having the time of her life! She had two dance competitions this spring, and neither were Lagoon (for the first time in forever!!), which worked out perfect since I was pregnant and couldn't have taken her on rides anyway....which is always the great appeal of competitions there. The first competition was the day of Nick's birthday party and the second competition was the day of Nick's baptism. Talk about crazy over-scheduling!! She had to go with a friend to the first one and we had to miss it. Boo. We barely made it in time after Nick's baptism shindig to her second one. It was at Provo High School. Skylar was stoked!! I made Skylar take a pic with this sign because it totally describes my ever dancing girl...she has gotta move!!
Skylar failed to tell me that her hip-hop dance was to Justin Bieber's Baby. I can't stand that song!! It was almost torture watching her dance to it, except Skylar is just so much fun to watch dance!
The next song was Shake Your Groove Thing. Skylar got some serious air in this dance....and made some truly awesome faces. I guess her teacher suggested a lot of facial expression.
Look at this kick!
Her last dance was her lyrical dance and they danced to Somewhere Over the Rainbow. This is the song that I had been singing to Reese in my tummy, thinking that he was our rainbow. We had told our family and friends just that morning that our rainbow was on our way. It was such a good day and I was happy for the first time in so long. I cried tears of happiness watching Skylar dance to this tender-to-me song, so comfortable and confident, so graceful and truly beautiful.
May 22 was Skylar's Spring Dance concert at UVU. It was time to strut her stuff again.
This is Skylar's awesome teacher, Erin. This is Skylar's first year with Erin in the Jr. Company at her dance studio and she has loved her!!
Skylar's old teachers, Jennifer and Christy, who teach the younger kids, decided to close down their part of the studio so Alexis won't be able to dance with them. Sad. This was their last dance concert. There were lots of tears. Skylar has been dancing with them since she was 3 and has so many great memories with them. They have been such wonderful teachers and we will miss them so much!!
Congratulations on being our star and finding joy in your passion, Skylar!!
