My kids and I were searching the interweb for free things to do in the area and we ran across this crazy thing called Kid Sciencepalooza. There was really no explanation for it except for the date, place, & time but when Nick saw it he knew it was something we HAD to go to. He's my little scientist!!Just the entryway was pretty cool. The kids all got a badge and got to be different scientists and go on a scavenger hunt throughout the place to find answers to cool science questions. Then if they answered all the questions they could put their entry in a drawing for a cool science prize...which Skylar won by the way! Woot! Woot!
There were all sorts of rooms set up with different science themes. Most of them were run by BYU students and all of them were pretty cool. In the dinosaur room the kids learned about fossils and how dinosaurs see.
In the black light room we learned that the human eye doesn't see black light but we see it reflect off certain colors. I didn't know that! The kids had fun coloring with highlighters (especially on themselves! grrr) and making glow-in-the-dark goop!
We figured we'd only be there for an hour tops so we didn't bother feeding the kids lunch before we went. We ended up staying for 3 hours! Good thing the kids got to make homemade ice cream!! They were more than happy to have ice cream for lunch. Yum!!In the plant room we got to learn about soil, plant seeds, and the kids got more treats....dirt pudding with gummy worms!
The kids all got a chance to get into a big huge bubble! There was also animals from the Bean Museum, a magic room, rockets, robots, and tons of other cool stuff to learn about. The kids got all sorts of goodies and science things to take home.
Our absolute favorite part of the day was the Diet Coke & Mentos experiment. The kids all got selected to participate! It was awesome!!
Before.....
Here's the video of it. Sorry it's so shakey! I was laughing so hard!!
After....so soaked!! Alexis got the most because she was on a chair and couldn't move fast enough.
We had such a fun family day together! It was even more awesome that all of it was completely free (minus Alexis's Diet Coke stained shirt)! We hope there's more Kid Sciencepaloozas to come because it rocked!
