September 11

Every September 11 we try to make it up to Sandy to see the Healing Field of Flags so that we can remember those that died that day. There is nothing as humbling and staggering as seeing so many, many flags that each represent someone who was killed in the attacks on our country. The flags seem to go on and on. It was such a blustery day, but our kids were good sports for the most part, even though it was so windy that it was almost hard to stand up & we all got whipped in the face a few times from the flags!
One of my favorite things is reading each name card that tells about the people who died. It reminds me that these people had families that loved them and that each one of them mattered.

The September sisters....Alexis, 3 & Skylar, 10.

Sandy City had something new this year for the 10th Anniversary. It was an amazing statue of my most favorite image of that horrible day...one that showed triumph over such tragedy and showed that our nation would go on despite those who would like us to fall....the firefighters raising the flag. I love this new statue! I love our country and the wonderful freedoms we have. The field of flags is such a reminder that this freedom does not come without cost at times, and I'm thankful for the reminder to truly cherish it.
