Our Fall Day of Fun
Ben decided to take the day off yesterday since Skylar & Nick were out of school for Fall Break so that we could have a day of fall fun. It was such a beautiful, warm fall day. We headed up to Thanksgiving Point to go to the Scarecrow Festival. This was definitely made for the younger crowd so our kids had a great time. They had a kiddie haunted house, kid's games, and a gazillion blow up slide/bounce things. Admission even included the farm so the kids all got to ride on a pony and we all went on a hay ride too. Afterwards we picked out some pumpkins from their "pumpkin patch" (just a bunch of pumpkins on the grass-not too "patchy"). We then headed to the good 'ol $1 movies to see Wall-E which was a great ending to a fun day!!

Bring on the Binkies!!
Alexis is such a Jordan baby. She wants to always suck on something, just like her older siblings. But mom's not about to go through the thumb sucking thing again, since I'm pretty sure Kade will suck his thumb until he's 13! I was none too happy when I caught her with her cute little thumb sucking away-it was definitely time to call in the binkies!
So we've forced a binky on my sweet little baby. I feel a little mean. Alexis seems a little more flexible than Kade was and will at least take a binky for a bit. She makes the same gagging face that he did and isn't a huge fan of it but I will not give up! She definitely prefers the Soothie brand over the Nuk though. I think the Nuks are much cuter but I guess fashion will just have to suffer if it keeps that thumb out of her mouth!!

Garbage Chicken
Crazy Hat Head (aka Nick) had Joy School today. They're learning about the Earth right now and learned about keeping it clean today. They took a chilly walk to the park to pick up litter. Later at lunch we had this conversation:
Me: I'm having soup for lunch today.
McKade (so concerned): Your tummy hurt?
Me: No, I'm just cold (it’s 40 degrees outside!)
Nick: Are you having chicken noodle?
Me: No, I'm going to have Roasted Garlic Chicken.
Nick: Um, yuck! I just picked up garbage at the park. But your Garbage Chicken does look nummy.
Silly boy always makes me laugh.
It's snow good!
Yesterday it snowed. I hate snow. I hate winter, especially in the fall. It's just not right to have snow on the ground while the trees are still green-except the "stoplight tree" (as my kids call it) at the school. But I do love watching my kids enjoy it. They love snow. It's so much better to be a kid.

Wise Words From the Prophet
General Conference was this last weekend. It's such a blessing to be able to hear from the apostles and prophet of our church. I feel that in spite of all that is happening in our world today that the speakers tried to emphasize that there is so much to be thankful for, to hope for, and to find joy in. Our trials can really be blessings if we have the right attitude. I especially loved President Monson's talk. It was exactly what I needed to hear.
"Let us relish life as we live it; find joy in the journey and share our love with friends and family. One day each of us will run out of tomorrows."

Skylar's Birthday Shindig
I love celebrating stuff, especially birthdays. I always try to make my kid's birthdays a big deal because my kids are such a big deal to me. I usually go all out and spend a couple of months planning it. However, I've decided that for the sake of my sanity (and my patient husband's) that we need to limit the birthday parties to every other year. So, with Skylar's big 8 being next year, this was definitely a good time to skip the big party. This also worked out great seeing as I'd be a whopping huge 9 months pregnant at her birthday. So I explained this to Skylar, promising we'd still do something fun for her birthday and forego the party this year.
I guess Alexis didn't want to be left out of the celebration and decided to come before Skylar's birthday! So, although she was brand new, she was able to join us for Skylar's birthday shindig. It all started the Saturday before Skylar's birthday-Alexis was 1 week old. We headed up to SLC and went to the circus! Now, Ben & I are not big circus people and actually felt a little guilty taking our kids because of the whole treatment of the animals. I shouldn't condone this but Ringling Bros. & Barnum Bailey will actually give you a free ticket in the first 12 months of your baby's life that they can use anytime before they are twelve. I had signed up all my kids for this but we'd never used the tickets. The circus always comes on the weekend of Skylar's birthday but we'd been involved with other things. Anyway, this year, we promised her we'd go. So, even though we had a new baby, I was recovering from a c-section, and the circus is evil, we went. Our seats were totally in the nose-bleed section but the kids didn't seem to mind. Skylar and Nick loved the acrobats (Nick-because Robin was in the circus, of course), Ben and Kade loved the tigers, Alexis enjoyed the nap, and I thought the elephants were totally the coolest but saddest thing! We all had a pretty good time, celebrated Skylar's birthday, and Alexis' first outing!
Then, on Sunday, after church and naps, we headed up to the Alpine Loop. It was absolutely the very best day to go. The fall leaves were beautiful! I wish that I had enough energy to get out and walk around but we decided to just watch from the car. Later on that night I read that you're actually not supposed to ride in a car much after a c-section because of the seatbelt being right on your incision and such. I'm glad I didn't read that before because I'm sooo glad we didn't miss out on the Alpine Loop this year!
Skylar's actual birthday was on Monday. On Sunday night, the reality that she wasn't having a birthday party sunk in and needless to say, she was upset. So, we're suckers and told her that we'd let her actually invite one friend and their family over for cake and ice cream after dinner. So we went out to eat at Olive Garden and then came home and had our little "party" with Millie and her family. It wasn't much, but it was hopefully sufficient for Skylar. Of course, there were also presents-isn't that the best thing? Skylar really wanted Pancake Puffs this year. She has had the TV commercial memorized for months and it was on the top of her wish list. We have yet to try them out but she sure was excited to get them! She also wanted art stuff and Aladdin and Pocahontas "barbies". She lucked out and got it all. Hope you had a happy birthday Sky!!
